Internet Research Assignment for
Developing Thesis Statements
1.    Carefully read,  in our text, Readings for Writers, this week's  Thesis/Purpose
readings and essays found in Assignments.
2.     Visit the following link:   Purpose and Thesis.
3.   Create a sample thesis on a topic of your choice. Reformulate it several times;
respond to the thesis statements by asking yourself  details such as, "Is it
too narrow or is it too broad?"  When you decide on a specific thesis,
                 proceed to the next step.
4.      Visit the following links : Beginning An Internet Subject Search   Internet Resource Evaluation .
Using the information and tips on that page, proceed to the next step(s).

5.    Create an internet search on your topic.  Choose three sites to read carefully as
potential sources for supporting your thesis statement.

6.  Using the information and suggestions obtained after reading Internet Resource Evaluation ,
evaluate the three sites that you visited.
8.  In the Class Discussion message board area, under the appropriate thread,
post your:  a.) thesis  b.)  name of the site c.) the URL, and d.) your evaluation of each site.
Be sure to evaluate each site on all of the criteria mentioned in the Internet Resource Evaluation
site.  This would be approximately a one sentence statement for a, and then one paragraph for b,
c, and for each of the three sites. This will be a smaller version of the Internet Evaluation form you may access.
if you like, at the Internet Resource Evaluation site. Classmates DO NOT have to respond, but should read
the evaluations; you might find an interesting site! This will be counted as an assignment  grade.
9.  In the Class Discussion message board area, under the appropriate thread, discuss the theme of
"A Good Man . . . " as directed.  Classmates respond to these posts.
Note:  There is no written assignment to send in to me for this topic (see #8).
