Unit 1 Assignments

1.    Read Chapters 1 and 2 of Technical Communication carefully.

2.    Visit the following link for lecture readingUnit 1 Lecture

3.    Read the information carefully and take notes.

4.    Create a personal web page in the section of BB5. Click on STUDENT TOOLS
and then on EDIT YOUR  HOME PAGE.  Place your information in the sections
provided.  For additional help in performing this assignment, click on STUDENT
TOOLS and the on  MANUAL.  In the Manual section, are  step-by-step
directions on how to create your home page. By creating a Home Page, you will be listing qualities
and experience that you currently have.  It is a very good prelude, and will be helpful therefore,
when you need a resume.  Also, by reading one another's home pages, each student will become
more aware of exactly who his/her audience is.  Understanding the backgrounds, interests, etc. of
one's classmates should enable you, the writer, to construct your writings for this class in a
more appropriate manner--i.e. level of language, etc.

5.      After the deadline for posting Home Pages occurs,  read one another's Home Pages to get an understanding
of the audience for this class.

6.    In the Discussion Board section, under the appropriate thread (posted question with a linked list of responses),
post your answer  to the following question, and also, be sure to respond twice to other classmates'
                    posts.
QUESTION:  How does technical writing differ from other types of writing?
Please provide specific examples and details within your response.
