Learning Objectives:
After completing this practice, the student should be able to:
The eukaryotic cell cycle allows the cell to grow and divide. In mitosis one parent cell produces two daughter cells with the same kind and amount of information (chromosomes) as the parent cells. The mitotic cell cycle is composed of the interphase and the M phase. A cell undertakes interphase prior to the M phase. The interphase is further subdivided into gap1 (G1), synthesis (S), and gap2 (G2) phases. In interphase (G1, S, G2), DNA (chromosomes) replication and most of the cell's growth and chemical activity take place. The M phase is composed of the mitotic phases (prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase) which divides the nucleus of the cell and cytokinesis which divides the cytoplasm. As a result of one mitotic division, one parent cell produces two daughter cells genetically identical.
To study and learn about Interphase do the following:
1. Prepare a simulation report composing of the following:
2. Do an online search:
The following assessment device (PTA) will
provide a scale to measure student's performance. It will be used to
grade
your assignment.
| Items
|
| 1.
Length of the Interphase
report: 3-5
page double-spaced, typed text. You can handwrite under your drawings
for labeling. 2. On the top of 1st page center the word Interphase for the heading, below that you should place BIO111W- indicate section number , on the next line type your full name, and the current date. 3. Use of font: Font (Arial or Times New Roman), Style (regular) , Size (12) 4. Paper size (11X8) inches, white color (if hard copy is turned in). 5. Be sure to label Part 1 - simulation report and Part 2- online search. 9. Label all items under Part 1 and Part 2, based on the description given above and provide answers. Please note: If you meet all the requirements (see the description above), you will get maximum 30 points for this report. Upload your completed Interphase report onto Educator or send it in via an email attachment, before the deadline. |
