of Unix
Objectives:

Recognize and be able to issue commands available with all Shells of Unix

Learn the History of Unix as an Operating System and why it's still in

Learn how to use the online Manual
Outcome: Learn how to use common editors
Objectives:

Importance of vi will be stressed

student will be introduced to pico as an alternative to vi
Outcome: Learn how to use some of the common commands and filters
Objectives:

Recognize how to use who, ou, ls, wc, sort, cat, colrm, tr, cut, paste,
w, grep and lpansi

Be able to use Redirection and Pipes

Recognize how to use wildcards and regular expressions with the above commands
Outcome: Be able to create directories and subdirectories
Objectives:

Be able to change, create and work with all directories

Be able to work with files in various directories
Outcome: Recognize and write Alias and Script Files
Objectives:

Be able to use and control Aliases

Be able to use if, do and case in Script files
Outcome: Learn how to use pine for email

Understand how to set up your Address file

Be able to compose and reply to e-mail

Winter 2006 and Fall 2006 Schedule
Fall 2006 Unix will meet on four different times in the
Fall semester with the first session being an optional orientation.
The class will meet on 8/31, 10/5 10/26 and 12/14.
