If you are just curious or looking for more information about biotechnology follow any of the links listed under the Just Curious heading. If you are enrolled or thinking about enrolling in Bio 274 Introduction to Biotechnology follow the links listed above for more information about the course. Bio 274 will take a more detailed look at cell and molecular biology with a focus on the laboratory techniques, applications and ethical implications of biotechnology. The class is designed for any student interested in biochemistry, molecular biology or biotechnology. It is also an excellent elective course for pre-med, pre-pharmacy, and chemistry majors. BIO 274 at Delta College was designed to transfer as the equivalent of the BIO 274 course taught at Ferris State Univeristy as part of the Ferris State Biotech Program. The pre-biotech curriculum at Delta enables students to transfer to Ferris as a junior and enter the four year biotechnology program upon acceptance. This two credit hour on-line course is designed to help science-minded individuals understand the basics behind the development of the biotech industry including the scientific, technical and public policy dimensions of genetic research. Online discussions, powerpoint presentations, critical thinking activities, guided reading assignments, and web assignments that guide students to the "best of biotech sites" will be used throughout the semester. The course is designed promote dynamic and reflective learning...students will not be bombarded with page after page of text written by the instructor to read on-line. In other words, these webpages do not promote passive learning, they promote active learning. In many, instances the learner will direct the direction of their own exploration of course topics. The textbook will be used more as a reference than as book to read from cover to cover. It provides a wealth of information and helpful illustrations on all topics for this course, but it often goes into more depth than will be expected. Grading will be based on participation in class discussions, homework assignments, a group assignment and two take home exams. If
